Medieval Festival Dudelange
16th Butschebuerger Buergfest
The Butschebuerger Buergfest (Lux) is the 16th edition of a spectacular medieval festival that takes place in Dudelange (South Luxembourg) from the 9th to 10th September 2017. Little known by expats this is one of the largest and most impressive medieval festivals in the Grand Duchy with knights in full armour competing at the tournament, medieval archery and of course also medieval food, herbs and drinks. There are many traders in medieval goods that ply their trade and delicious food waiting to be savoured.
During our very first visit we were mesmerized and felt transported to another epoche. Particularly once the sun has set many stands are illuminated in low light and the glow of the torches leads the way to the knights’ encampment. It is spectacular, no other words for it and if as a first time visitors we had simply never seen anything quite like it. This is one of our personal favourite events throughout the year that makes you forget that we all live in the 21st century. It’s a great experience for everyone.
Getting there:
Take the train to Dudelange and follow the signs to the festival is probably the best way to get there. It is possible of course to drive to the park and ride and use one of the numerous shuttle buses in operation that will take visitors to the site and back.
Recommendations
Make sure that you have cash with you as it is normally not possible to pay by card. Particularly for the numerous food stalls whose smell will torture you if you come without cash. We particularly recommend the salad dressing done according to medieval recepies and of course medieval archery. A top experience. Additionally also the flacons and exotic birds are very enjoyable to see.
