Get ready for this years’s BIGGEST party.
The single biggest party as the historic old town transforms into one huge party.
Although Luxembourg’s national day falls on June 23rd, the majority of the party happens the day before. Each year tens of thousands of revellers join the big street party which is taking place across the old-town of the capital where numerous bars and organizations have setup their stands selling food and drinks.
From 7pm people will be able to listen to live music in Place Guillaume II (Knueddler) and Place d’Armes as well as other live shows that are expected in various locations around uptown.
At about 9pm the celebrations get into gear with a large torchlight procession that starts from Avenue de la Gare, across the Viaduc and the Holy Ghost plateau with the law courts and continues into Rue Philippe II.
One of the real highlights of the evening is the spectacular display of the fireworks which will last 17minutes and is set off from Fort Thüngen (Three glands /Kirchberg plateau, opposite the old town). Best vantage points are: around Bockfels, the Corniche, Montée de Clausen and also the outskirts of the Grund. However party-goes will want to have decided on their viewing spot well before the first fireworks start at 11pm as it gets packed.
Fox comment: This is without doubt the Grand Duchy’s biggest and craziest party with tens of thousands of revellers in the street, loads of DJs and street performances, food stalls, and packed bars. Some say it’s comparable to Koninginnedag in Amsterdam although we leave you to judge on this. Withdraw some cash before you go in as many of the stalls only take cash. A favourite place of the Fox’s team is to hang out around the open space outside the National Museum for History and Fine Arts.
